Sports Authority (known as sports authority in some places) is one of the largest sporting goods retailer in the United States. Bank is headquartered in Inglewood, Colorado, and manages more than 450 stores in 45 U.S. states as the Sports Authority.

Sports Authority, Inc. was founded in Lauder dale Lakes, FL syndicate of venture capital group and several key leaders of hardware. Jack A. Smith, former chief operating sports Herman, CEO, Roy M. Cohen, Sr. VP and general manager of products, Richard Lynch, Sr.VP Arnold Seder and Chief Financial Officer, Vice President of Operations, shops were founding leaders. VC syndicate led by William Blair Venture Partners and included First Chicago Venture Partners, Bain Capital, Phillips-Smith Venture Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners and Marquette securities.

Sports Authority, Inc. opened its first store in November 1987, in Lauder dale Lakes, Florida. In 1990, with approximately nine stores in six countries, the company was acquired by Kmart. Five years ago, Sports Authority, has grown to 136 stores in 26 states and to separate from parent Kmart.
